Capitol Police Officers Challenge Trump’s $1.77 Billion Settlement Fund

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in a Washington, DC court, centers on the legality of the so-called Anti-Weaponization Fund. Retired US Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn and Metropolitan Police Department Officer Daniel Hodges argue that the settlement constitutes a profound act of presidential corruption. The filing asserts that no statute authorizes the creation of such a fund, characterizing the entire deal as a sham that violates the Constitution. The officers contend that the arrangement directly endangers them by financing individuals who continue to threaten their safety.

Beyond the lawsuit, the settlement has triggered a broader legislative battle. House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin and Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard Neal are demanding transparency from administration officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and IRS CEO Frank Bisignano. Raskin has introduced the No Taxpayer-Funded Settlement Slush Funds Act of 2026 to block the payout, though initial efforts to subpoena the officials involved in the deal were defeated along party lines in the House Judiciary Committee.
