International Lawyers Denounce US Policy Toward Cuba

IADL general secretary Micòl Savia argued that the United States maintains a dangerous disregard for collective institutions, using unilateral economic coercion to destabilize sovereign nations. According to the group, the ongoing blockade and recent restrictions on fuel shipments have intensified humanitarian hardships for the Cuban populace, effectively punishing the country for its refusal to align with US geopolitical objectives.

Legal experts at the event also scrutinized the US Department of Justice’s indictment of 94-year-old Raúl Castro regarding a 1996 airspace incident. Deborah Jackson of the National Conference of Black Lawyers dismissed the charges as a political prosecution, while Kerry McLean of the National Lawyers’ Guild warned that such maneuvers echo the 2026 abduction of Venezuelan leadership. The speakers further cautioned that Washington's strategy extends to the intimidation of international solidarity organizations, which the IADL claims are being targeted to suppress opposition to US policy.
